War and Peace
The War and Peace show is the biggest military event in the world with over 100.000 visitors each year. It takes place on the countryside near Beltring in the U.K.
Main attractions are the various re-enactors and hundreds of military vehicles and battle-tanks. Staying there for five days brought me entertaining, learn full and also remarkable confrontations with "living history".
In 2010 'war and peace' was selected amongst other work from art-academy students to be presented on the international photo festival BREDAPHOTO under the theme 'TILT'. The images were printed on a size of 180 x 120 cm and presented in a public space at the Chasepark, Breda.
The exhibition lasted from 16-09-2010 till 24-10-2010.
In 2011 the series is also presented by De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam from 27-05-2011 - 17-07-2011 under the theme '(Re): TIILT' |

Behind the frontline
At the War and Peace show there were extraordinary scenes on the camping sites. For many participants the show is a chance to get away from everyday modern life. In which camouflage has almost no roll. Or at least not in the context of warfare.
A great symbol for the everyday life is the two wheel drive, none armored and without weapons; automobile or caravan. A symbol easily put in to context by using artificial nature. |
