This short series was made for 'de Aanschouw'. A small art gallery attached to the wall of 'café de Schouw' in de Witte de Withstraat, Rotterdam.
The small gallery can be viewed for 24 hours a day showing a different artist every 7 days.
I was invited to fill the gallery with custom work from the 13th untill the 20th of august 2010.
For two days i wondered the beach of Hoek van Holland looking for the cliché German tourist who, according to the Dutch cliché, digs holes in which he eventually can relax with beer.
In stead i found many Dutch men doing exactly this, but no Germans.
Still the many present Germans intreged me because of there remarkable way of celebrating there holiday (urlaub) in spite of the bad weather conditions on a almost empty beach.
A German nationality, colors, figures and a horizon eventually brought these four images together. |
